Dara is an experienced and innovative music teacher. During school terms Dara teaches Leaving and Junior Cert. music, piano, recorder and music theory in Dublin and Wicklow. During school breaks she runs teacher education workshops as well as Song and Writing workshops.
Dara, obviously, covers the Song side of Song and Writing. No experience of music or songwriting is needed to take part in the workshops - "It's possible to write a very exciting song with just three chords and a very basic structure. That's where popular music started and so that's where we start. Once you're comfortable with that, you can experiment a bit and start to create more complex songs. But you have to start at the beginning, all songwriters do - look at the Beatles, or any band!"
Dara and Claire met while working for the Centre for Talented Youth a few years ago and have been friends ever since. They decided to pool their experience, skills and imaginations together for summer 2009 and out of this came Song and Writing. They share an interest in books, vampires and David Bowie among many, many other things.
